Halcyon
103.187.104.76:26480Founded by a postgraduate medievalist, Halcyon is a civilisations server seeking to build an immersive medieval atmosphere based on an old-school survival experience, while staying on the latest version of vanilla Minecraft (26.2). ABOUT Halcyon uses a handmade custom world and a small number of gameplay restrictions to increase difficulty, slow down progression, and reduce the value of 'meta' play while rewarding creativity, cooperation, and specialisation. Success is based not on exploits and automation, but on performing great feats of valour, conducting research, negotiating profitable trade deals, worshipping in great churches and hidden groves, building mighty cities and fortresses, and above all, rallying other players to your banner. With large, distinct biomes, and no means of teleportation, travel and navigation have become major aspects of gameplay, prompting players to build elaborate road systems, waystations, and secret subterranean railways. Crops and saplings are restricted to particular biomes, making trade a necessity and encouraging local strengths and identity. Halcyon seeks to recover the wonder and mystery of old-school Minecraft. You will find no wiki or guide beyond the basic mechanics covered in the handbook (found at spawn). Instead, information on the history of the world, its politics, conditions in the various regions, economic circumstances, religion, and the mysteries of the transmundane can all be found either in the hundreds of ingame books that players have written so far, or in the heads of those players themselves. Travelling the realm to visit the great libraries, liaising with scholars and researchers in their towers, and meeting with elders and mystics in their sacred places are all everyday occurrences on Halcyon, and are not just roleplay - they offer tangible gameplay advantages! FEATURES - Overcome the challenge of an old-school survival experience, where night cannot be skipped and health can only be regenerated slowly and under certain conditions. - Create unique factions with the Lands plugin, with custom ranks, permissions, and sub-areas, allowing for complex player-driven politics. - Explore a hand-crafted and geologically-simulated 20k x 20k world, with large, distinct biomes, and region-specific crops. - Experience the tension of PvP, theft, sieges, and assassination, without having to worry about your builds being griefed or destroyed. - Unravel the mysteries of our tailor-made Karma system, whose blessings and curses ensure that honour, oaths, prayers and curses are not just superstition. - Feel the fear of night once again, as the most accursed players are transformed into monsters, empowered by the darkness, but unable to step into the light. - Enjoy a slower, more meaningful pace of gameplay, with built-in limitations on enchanting, brewing, villagers, and automated farms. - Take up arms with properly medieval war mechanics, centred on taking captives, ransom, reputation, and diplomacy. - Develop compelling emergent narratives supported by gameplay mechanics without needing to be 'in character'. - Speak directly to other players via optional SimpleVoiceChat. - Naturally, Halcyon is an inclusive and queer-friendly server, welcoming people of any gender, sexuality, race, religion, and background. RULES Players must be least 16 years of age. 1. No Cheating - we are a community committed to old-school play styles, and so coordinate displays, minimaps, cave-finders, entity radar, fullbright texture packs, pie charts, macros, and bots are not allowed. 2. Be Courteous - we do not allow harassment, bigotry, rage-baiting, or trash-talking. Conflict should be handled maturely, and in a clearly 'ingame' way, to keep the server a friendly and amicable place. 3. No Griefing - building or vandalism intended to create ugliness or upset other players is not permitted.
